Floor Cleaning Tips

Wooden Floor Cleaner Liquid

Ceramic Tile

To clean ceramic tiles, use SHINE-IT Hard Surface Cleaner. Baking soda can be used along with the SHINE-IT Hard Surface Cleaner for a more abrasive action. For hard to remove stains, make a paste of baking soda and Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate. Apply the paste to the stain. Let it sit for 30 minutes, then scrub. Rinse thoroughly.

Marble

To remove stains from a marble floor, make a paste of baking soda and Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate, then cover the stain with the paste. Cover the paste with a damp cloth and leave overnight. In the morning, wet down and scrape off the paste. Rinse thoroughly.

Wood

Most hardwood floors can be kept clean by first sweeping or vacuuming to remove most of the surface dust and dirt, then damp mopping with clear water (dip a sponge mop in clear water, squeezing it out so that the mop is barely damp, almost dry). Use very little water and wring your mop thoroughly after each use since excess water can dissolve protective coatings, alter the color of the wood and raise the grain to roughen the surface. If your floors are not dirty enough to need mopping every week, then you should not do it, as it will wear the floors faster, not to mention waste your time. Simply sweeping is often all hardwood floors need. To restore the shine to a hardwood floor after cleaning, damp mop with a solution of 1/2 cup vinegar and 2 tablespoons furniture polish in a gallon of warm water. Vinegar is also useful for removing any soap residue or build-up (1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar in 1 gallon of warm water), but should not be necessary every week. Using a soft cloth, dip the cloth in the vinegar solution, wring out most of the solution and wipe the floor without getting it very wet. Buff with a cloth to bring out the shine.
The ideal solution for removing a urine stain from a wood floor is to sand and refinish it, since it is very difficult to match up the floor finish once you have treated a urine stain in the wood. However, you can still try. To remove urine stains and odors from your wood floor, first blot the area with an absorbent cloth to remove any excess urine. Then, simply spray SHINE-IT Hard Surface Cleaner on the soiled area. Allow it to penetrate for approximately 5 minutes. Wipe clean. Do not saturate the wood or allow any liquid to stand on the surface for any length of time. If the stain remains and the urine has deeply penetrated the wood, there will be no choice but to sand it down and refinish. This may be best left to a professional.

Vinyl and Linoleum

Vinyl and linoleum floors should never be scrubbed with strong abrasive cleaners or cleaning tools. Simply damp mop using SHINE-IT Hard Surface Cleaner.
Stains can be removed from your linoleum and vinyl floors, by simply spraying the SHINE-IT Hard Surface Cleaner on the soiled area, and then allowing it to penetrate for approximately 5 minutes. Wipe clean. Baking soda can be sprinkled on the soiled area, in combination with SHINE-IT, for a more abrasive action. For hard to remove stains, make a paste of baking soda and Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate. Apply the paste to the stain. Let it sit for 30 minutes, then scrub. Rinse thoroughly.
The most effective way to remove mold or mildew from vinyl and linoleum is to kill it with chlorine bleach. Spray it with a solution of bleach and water, scrub, then rinse thoroughly. If the area is not bleach-safe, use the SHINE-IT Hard Surface Cleaner. Simply spray it on, wait 15 minutes, then rinse.
